I love summer for many reasons, but in terms of my skin, I love to have a tan face because my skin looks slightly better. So now that fall is approaching, I’m wondering how to keep my skin looking good. Is it possible? I was lucky enough to chat with skin care expert, Aurora Wellise of the Pretty Parlor about seasonal skin care and what to do; here is her advice:
Q: My tan is leaving me, what can I do to survive this season change?
In my opinion the best way to keep the skin glowing is to do a series of deep exfoliating facials – or “lunchtime” peels. Meaning, a chemical or enzyme peel which sloughs off a good level of all that summertime fun – leaving the glow after the sun stops sparkling in all of our faces.
Q: Why is fall an ideal time to try a peel?
It’s perfect timing since we’re not exposing ourselves to harmful sun rays. The deep exfoliating process not only removes sun damage (from the current season & past) but puts the skin into a regenerating process to promote collagen production and reduce fine lines & wrinkles.
Q: I am old enough to need Botox, but I am also lucky enough to still get acne can I still do one of these peels?
Peels are also helpful for any skin problem solving we are seeking, like acne, mild scarring, hyper pigmentation, aging, & dry skin. (While the peels can be temporarily drying, with the regenerative process & proper care our skin actually becomes more capable of holding onto moisture – something we’re all desperate for in dry climates.)
Q: How gross will I look after peeling my face?
A beautiful element to a series of mild to medium depth peels is that while they are extremely regenerative & capable of creating fabulous results, the down time is minimal. We don’t have to have our entire face crusty & peeling off for days (of course I do have the capability of going deep if that’s what a client is looking for). A lot of us women (& men too, peels are amazing for guys that are showing signs of aging from years of skiing skating etc etc) don’t have time in our schedule for 10 days of healing from a deep peel. Doing a series of 6 lighter peels, one every 7 to 10 days for the duration of the process, is a great way to achieve glowing results. And pamper our way from summer into the holidays!
Q: I’m almost sold, but how expensive is this? I’m no Kardashian, so if it costs too much, I’m out.
Peels start around $95 at the Pretty Parlor.
“I’m a western girl who lived in NYC for 10 years before coming back to the Sierras for a life of family, fly fishing & skin care. I am a reiki master. I have a crazy passion for skin care, and believe totally in blending the latest science with a web of nurturing holistic care. I am in love with Pretty Parlor & Sarah. I am detail oriented… in NY I worked as an independent designer with my own business followed by general managing at Diner and Marlow & Sons simultaneously (the two best restaurants in Brooklyn, in my opinion!). I have translated that detailed nature into skin care, waxing, eyelash extensions & reiki. Well rounded self-care for beauty which truly comes from outside as well as in. And hopefully I can keep up this pursuit with grace!”
