Every year I regret not getting into the holiday spirit sooner. Thanksgiving comes and goes and before I know it; we’re half way into December,I haven’t put up all of our Christmas decorations which only leaves a few short weeks to enjoy the magic!
But not this year, folks.
My family and I were lucky enough to experience the V&T Railroad Polar Express a few days before Thanksgiving.
As soon as we found out we’d be heading to the North Pole, we bought the book for my 4-year-old so she could appreciate the story.
Dressed in their Christmas jammies and bundled up in a warm blanket, the girls boarded the Polar Express from Carson City to the North Pole – in and out within 1.5 hours – perfect length for their attention span.
The helpers on the car were so much fun – joyful, singing, dancing and talking to the kids as we made the trek to the North.
Cookies and hot chocolate were served as the reading of the Polar Express was played over the car speakers. The timing of the story with the journey seemed perfect – the mention of a bridge or a hill seemed to sync magically with our real journey – at least it seemed that way to my 4yo, which is all that matters.
When we reached the North Pole the kids could peer out of the windows to see a tiny village decked in Christmas lights. Elves were doing somersaults and prancing around the Christmas tree as Mr. and Mrs. Claus made their grand entrance. It was so stinkin’ cute!
As we made our way back home, Santa boarded the train and patiently handed out silver bells to all of the believers on board. This guy was awesome! Convincing as any Santa I’ve seen and so great at pausing to take photos with the families on board.
It was a night well spent and a great way to get into the holiday magic. Next year we’ll let the 4yo decide if it’s an adventure she’d like to repeat.
For those of you who live in Reno Tahoe, you can get ticket information here.
What do you do with your family to get into the holiday spirit?
