As the ‘gateway’ to one of the many great events gracing this year’s Artown calendar, The Nest is happy to invite you in to stay awhile before pointing you in the right direction as you wander along the river to DISCOVER DICKERSON: Between The River and The Rails, a full day of art, theater, comedy, performance art, music, food trucks, interactive projects for the whole family and yoga in the park. As Second Street follows the Truckee River west and becomes Dickerson Road, all of a sudden a burgeoning arts district pops up and welcomes you to walk the neighborhood and meet the friendly business owners who greet you as if you were a dinner guest at their home.
Some of our favorite stops along the way include fellow offTract author Sam Stremmel’s Sierra Water Gardens and The Wedge Ceramics Studio, Reno Art Works, The Potentialist Workshop, CoAuto, Reno Homebrewer, and The Oxbow Cafe & Bistro.
Over at The Nest, we are happy to be hosting a handmade leather goods pop up shop by Celia Grace Johnson of Wild Child In The Tree and a western-themed DIY station complete with snacks & sweet tea to get you all countrified for your trek down the river

and the rails AND for the following week’s country music & camping festival, A Night In The Country!
And because we can’t really help it, Jocelyn Noel and I grabbed a few friends, our favorite cowboy boots and an old 1918 army camping tent from The Nest to do a photo shoot of how we would spend a day singing along to The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” out in Yerington–or really just any day out camping with an excuse to throw on an under-appreciated cowboy hat.
